Why do Tennessee lawmakers want to monitor my bathroom use?

I simply can’t understand legislation that adds another barrier to the success and safety of students by legislating which restroom I use. It’s time that we call on our elected officials to focus on things that actually matter, like supporting our educators, decreasing bullying and raising graduation rates. I shouldn’t have to think about the bathroom at school and neither should our elected officials.

Tennessee Governor Concerned About Anti-Transgender Student Restroom Bill

Hedy Weinberg, executive director of the ACLU of Tennessee, told BuzzFeed News in a statement, “This legislation calls for one group of students to be treated differently from others, which is discrimination, pure and simple.”

“Codifying such discrimination into law serves only to have a devastating impact on young people who are already under tremendous stress and at greater risk of bullying,” she said.
