The Center for Innovative Public Health Research is developing a healthy sexuality and HIV prevention program for teenage males who are gay or bisexual, using text messaging. They are looking for gay, bisexual and queer teenage males between 14-18 years of age to share thoughts about different parts of the healthy sexuality program that they are developing.

Have your voice heard and help develop a healthy sexuality and HIV prevention program! You will receive a $25 incentive for participating.

Did you know our Research Department found that Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) have tangible benefits for LGBT students in school? Specifically:

  • The presence of GSAs may help to make schools safer for LGBT students by sending a message that biased language and harassment will not be tolerated.
  • Having a GSA may also make schools more accessible to LGBT students by contributing to a more positive school environment.
  • GSAs may help LGBT students to identify supportive school staff, which has been shown to have a positive impact on their academic achievements and experiences in school.

18 LGBT Allies Who Advocated for HIV/AIDS Awareness

A big part in the early fight against AIDS was eliminating the stigma associated with it. The people in the best positions to do so were often celebrities who were allies to the LGBT community. They used their fame to bring attention to the epidemic and used their resources to raise money for research and to provide care for those in need. Thankfully this is an aspect of fame that knows no age or generation, as AIDS continues to be a harsh reality today. Here are 18 celebrity allies who have advocated for HIV/AIDS awareness over the past 30 years.

Bayli Silberstein, an 8th grade student in Florida, has been trying for a year to create a Gay-Straight Alliance, a student-led club to combat the name-calling and bullying she and her friends face at school. But in an underhanded attempt to stop Bayli from forming the Gay-Straight Alliance, the school board is considering banning ALL extracurricular clubs. 

The school board will be discussing the proposal on February 18, so we’ve got to act now to mobilize a public response. Join us in calling on the Lake County School Board to stop the assault on students’ freedom of expression.
