This is why we do the work. Everyone at GLSEN, every teacher, and student, and volunteer, and every “Follower” on Tumblr. Each one of you. We do this work to make schools safer for LGBT students, we know it’s working, and with this award from Chase, we could do even more.
Will you pledge to choose GLSEN when voting begins on November 27? http://www.glsen.org/chase
Happy second day of Ally Week everyone! I hope it’s going well for all those participating. Personally, since my GSA is just getting together right now, I will probably end up celebrating Ally Week with them a little late. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t have some Ally Week blogging fun! So I’ll be posting some little facts and tidbits about allies all this week!
Fun Fact #1: Did you know that the first GSA was the idea of an ally? In 1998, a student of Kevin Jennings (the founder of GLSEN) proposed creating a club to promote LGBT inclusiveness to Mr. Jennings, and suggested it be called a Gay-Straight Alliance because she was straight and he was gay. Now, there are over 4,000 GSAs registered in the country!
