Caitlyn Jenner isn’t perfect, in fact she’s a divisive figure within the trans community. But that doesn’t make it OK to mock her gender as a costume. When a man dresses up as Caitlyn Jenner for Halloween, the implicit joke is offensive and demeaning to trans women.

#MyVanityFairCover is a trend started by Tumblr user Crystal, who wanted to give more trans individuals access to the platform Caitlyn Jenner has, as well as share the message that #TransIsBeautiful, no matter what that means to you.
Crystal wrote:
“I’ve felt frustrated and useless and overwhelmed by opinions on transgender women and how we’re “supposed” to look if we want to be taken seriously.
But not all of us adhere to those standards. Not all of us want to. Not all of us can. Some of us do, but only out of fear. Some of us do but we aren’t sure why. And whether we fit those standards or not, we’re beautiful, and we all deserve to feel beautiful, and be acknowledged by the world. Admiration and praise for trans women shouldn’t only come if we fit a narrow definition of beauty.”

Caitlyn Jenner broke the Internet with her beautiful “Vanity Fair” cover, and also helped inspire thousands to create their own covers.
Mic. put together a list of some more inspirational trans women that could grace Vanity Fair’s cover in the future.
While we celebrate her visibility, it’s also vital that we contextualize and frame her journey so we can better serve a multilayered, intersectional community that doesn’t have the level of access that has enabled Jenner to be seen and heard as her truest self — something every single person should have access to.
“Trans people deserve something vital. They deserve your respect. And from that respect comes a more compassionate community, a more empathetic society, and a better world for all of us.”

Caitlyn Jenner is on the cover of Sports Illustrated this month, revisiting the Olympics history and gold medal she won 40 years ago. Jenner first graced the cover of Sports Illustrated after taking home the gold medal for the decathlon, but today’s cover feature is no less historic.

2015 was the best of times and the worst of times for transgender women in the United States. While it was a revolutionary year for for transgender visibility on television and in movies, it was a devastating year of record-high violence against trans women in real life. As we were tallying 18 fictional trans women on TV, two celebrated fictional trans women (played by trans women) in film, five reality shows featuring real life trans women, and the continued popularity rise of Janet Mock and Laverne Cox, we were also counting the murders of 23 trans women, most of them Black women.
While we celebrated never-before-seen trans TV characters, we mourned the nearly biweekly loss of a transgender woman to murder. While Caitlyn Jenner was featured on the cover of Vanity Fair, untold numbers of trans women were raped in prison and immigration centers. While Tangerine made history with its four Independent Spirit Award nominations, Houston overwhelmingly voted to take away civil rights protections because they didn’t want trans women to have access to women’s bathrooms.
