Andreja Pejic, one of the world’s most famous transgender models, was featured in the May issue of Vogue.

On visibility, Pejic talks about her original fears of a public transition:

“Being known to the whole world with this transition, I thought, Who is ever going to love me? How am I going to have a relationship with a man if all of this is public?” she says. “Then I got to a place where I was like, ‘I’m successful and happy with what I’ve achieved. There’s nothing I should be ashamed of. You can take it or leave it.’” 

The article also talks about the importance of increased visibility, the trans rights movement, and how the fashion world is evolving with, and sometimes helping to pave with way for, our conceptions of gender, sex, and fluidity.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Before we get on with the post, it’s important to note that these are two groups of diverse people who are very unique in many ways! ADAPT (formerly Americans Disabled for Accessible Public Transit and Americans Disabled Attendant Programs Today), established in the 1970s in Denver, is a grassroots organization within the disability rights movement that emphasizes direct action to bring greater visibility to the fight for the rights of Americans with disabilities. On July 26, 1990, twenty-six years ago today, as a result of the work of organizations like ADAPT, President George H.W. Bush signed into law the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
