When we talk about trans people, two names that almost always come up are Janet Mock and Laverne Cox, who have become standard-bearers for the trans community.
But black trans excellence doesn’t begin and end with these two amazing women. There are many more black leaders who have revolutionized the movement for trans rights.

“What’s the difference between a good school district and Senator Ted Cruz? Good school districts quietly go about doing the right thing by all of their students. Sen. Cruz makes loud, thoughtless pronouncements to shill for votes at the expense of young people’s wellbeing. Numerous school districts around the country have policies in place, some of which have existed for decades, that protect and affirm transgender students. These policies were established by local leaders who understand what it takes to create safe and welcoming schools – something Sen. Cruz clearly knows nothing about. For him to make these statements on the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance, when we mourn the loss of far too many to transphobic hate, is particularly shameful.” - GLSEN’s Executive Director, Dr. Eliza Byard, responds to Ted Cruz’s comments about transgender students.
We love this story from BuzzFeed! Congrats, Gabrielle!
“The moment was a confirmation that my transition mattered to my family, and they were more than happy to let me live as my true identity.”
“I hope when people see this video, they see the importance of names and pronouns, because they are so important to someone’s transition,” Gabrielle said.
Congratulations on your accomplishments, Brit! We look forward to seeing more from you.
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Before we get on with the post, it’s important to note that these are two groups of diverse people who are very unique in many ways! However, in light of the month, (and mainly due to the fact that a lot of the resources available online are for both groups), here is a compilation of resources for Asian and Pacific Islander LGBTQ+ people! Other masterposts can be found here (and don’t hesitate to add anything if you have resources to contribute)!
